A man falls to his death from a mountain, and detective Hae-joon is assigned to investigate. Suspicion soon falls on the dead man's wife, Seo-rae, whose composed reaction to his death raises questions. During interrogations and surveillance, however, Hae-joon's professional interest gradually develops into a fascination he can no longer separate from the case. Suspicion and attraction become increasingly entangled as Hae-joon tries to understand the enigmatic woman at the centre of his investigation. Park Chan-wook moves between police procedural and romance, using shifting perspectives, unexpected humour and the recurring contrast between mountains and sea to trace a relationship in which desire repeatedly complicates the search for truth. Starring Tang Wei and Park Hae-il, DECISION TO LEAVE was written by Park Chan-wook and Chung Seo-kyung, his co-writer on THE HANDMAIDEN. The film premiered in Competition at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival, where Park Chan-wook received the Award for Best Director.
